Ryan Fernando establishes College batting record

Sri Lanka youth cap Ryan Fernando of S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia scored an unbeaten double century and established a new college batting record.

Ryan scored an unbeaten 252 in 334 balls with 25 boundaries and 2 sixes against Isipathana College Colombo in their traditional under-19 Schools Cricket fixture played in Mt. Lavinia on Saturday. In reply to S Thomas’ 420/8d, Isipathana had scored 145/5 at close.

Ryan broke Bertie Wijesinghe’s 83-year-old record. Bertie scored 235 runs against St. Benedict’s Kotahena. Kumar Sangakkara was the second highest when he scored 198 in 1997.

In the other traditional match, Prince of Wales took major honours against Kingswood.
