A stock of Rs 120 million worth over Kerala cannabis(Ganja) abandoned by smugglers at sea was seized by the Navy, during a morning patrol off the coast of Udappuwa Periyapadu 19 June. The stock weighed over 543 kilogrammes and was found in 173 parcels.
Accordingly, the Navy’s Thambapanni Institute of the North Western Naval Command conducted a search of the Udappuwa Periyapadu and found the stock washed ashore. It is believed that the consignment of Kerala cannabis was abandoned by smugglers at sea and could not be brought ashore due to naval operations in these seas.
The Navy is conducting further search operations in the Periyapadu area off Udappuwa. Meanwhile, the seized cannabis was handed over to the Udappuwa Police for further action.
