Police arrest 21 protesters near Finance Ministry

A total of 21 individuals have been arrested by the police for obstructing access to the Presidential Secretariat and the entrance to the Ministry of Finance down Lotus Road.

Amongst the arrested is a Buddhist monk, four females and 16 males.

Police noted that as a result of their unruly behaviour, officials of the Finance Ministry, Presidential Secretariat and the Treasury faced various difficulties in reporting for duties.

Further, the blockade at the entrance to the ministry had delayed the meeting of the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance with the IMF representatives who arrived in the country today.

The arrestees are to be produced before courts later today.
