Out of a staggering 1,202 road accidents this year, 96 were involving bicycles. This is due to an increasing number of people taking to riding bicycles, Police said yesterday.
Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said, with more cyclists taking to the roads, due to the fuel crisis, the DIG of Traffic Police has issued instructions to the public on the safe use of bicycles.
He claimed that many of the accidents, involving cyclists, occurred due to bicycles not having lights and cyclists wearing dark clothing at night. He urged drivers to be mindful while driving to avoid such accidents. SSP Thalduwa advised cyclists to wear reflective clothing and protective gear when cycling, particularly at night.
