“Do not queue up for fuel for the next four days”

In face of the non-availability of stocks, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera has requested the public not to be in fuel queues until 23 June unless they fall under essential services.

The Minister said Letter of Credit (LCs) for USD 90 million have been opened for a petrol shipment which is scheduled to arrive in the island on the 23 June and a diesel shipment scheduled to arrive on 24 June.

He therefore urged the public not to queue up for fuel until the fuel shipments arrive.

Minister Wijesekera said that steps will be taken to issue fuel for essential services from selected filling stations from next week.
