Colombo schools closed for a week

All schools in Colombo will be closed for a period of one week from Monday (20).

These measures have been taken in view of the transportation difficulties that have arisen due to the fuel crisis.

However, rural schools across the island that are not affected by the transportation issues can operate at the discretion of the school principals, Secretary to the Ministry of Education, M. N Ranasinghe said.

He also said that schools in the suburbs have decided to conduct online lessons next week.

The Secretary further said that officials attached to the education sector will hold a round of talks next Saturday (25) to assess the situation and decide how school functions will be conducted the following week.
