Parliament to convene from 21 to 24 June


Parliament will convene from 21 to 24 June, the Committee on Parliamentary Business decided.

The committee meeting was chaired by Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapaksha.

The Adjournment Debate on the first report of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) of the 2nd Session of 9th Parliament will be held on 23 June from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Secretary-General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake said.

The Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill and the Code of Civil Procedure (Amendment) Bill are scheduled to be passed without a debate from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on 21 June.

Then, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the Industrial Disputes (Special Provisions) Bill will be taken up for debate.

Time is allotted from 4:30 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. for questions at the adjournment time. The motion at the adjournment time moved by government will then be taken up from 4:50 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the debate on the prevailing issues of the health sector in the country will be held on 22 June from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on a motion moved by the Opposition.

The Committee on Parliamentary Business also decided to allocate time from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on 24 June for the second day of the vote of condolence for the Late MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala, who was killed on 9 May.
