Last fuel shipment under Indian Credit Line arrives

The Government had to pay USD 25 million for the fuel shipment that arrived yesterday (16) under the USD 500 million of the Indian Credit Line as the remaining balance of the loan was not sufficient to release the shipment,  Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said.

This is the final fuel shipment that could be obtained through the Credit Line. The shipment brought 40,000 MT of diesel.

Wijesekera said, the standard of the diesel is being reviewed and distribution would commence soon.

Sri Lanka bought fuel under two Indian Credit Lines which were USD 500 million and USD 200 million respectively since April this year.

Wijesekera told the media that the Government is in talks with Delhi about obtaining another USD 500 million Credit Line through the EXIM Bank of India.
