Colombo Additional Magistrate Keminda Perera, yesterday (16) temporarily lifted the overseas travel ban clamped on Maldivian former State Finance Minister, 45-year-old Mohammad Ashmaly.
The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court had previously impounded the passport of the Maldivian national, after he had been named as a suspect in a case, where he had been charged with the sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl.
Magistrate Perera gave this order, having perused submissions made on behalf of the suspect, by his lawyers, who stated that their client is due to travel overseas for personal reasons and therefore temporarily release his passport, which had been impounded by Court.
The suspect who was produced in Court on 3 July last year, in connection with the case, had been ordered to be remanded and was later enlarged on bail.
