Following a discussion with the leaders of certain political parties, General Secretary of United National Party (UNP) Palitha Range Bandara said several political parties which had been with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) would join hands with the UNP in due course.
Ilangai Makkal Thesiya Katchi (IMTK) General Secretary S. Vishnukanthan, Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) Colombo District Organiser Dushyanthan Manalangam, Progressive Janatha Sevaka Party (PJSP) Vice President Indika Sooriyaarachchi, Sri Telo General Secretary P. Udayarasa, Democratic People’s Congress Deputy Leader Prof. Kumara Gurubhavan, United Congress Leader A. M. Mubarak, Sri Lanka Communist United Organisation General Secretary E. Thambiaiya, Exath Sri Lanka Peramuna Leader Jagath Karunanayake and Sri Lanka Exath Ekamuthu Peramuna Leader M. S. M. Satheek were present during the discussion.
The leaders of the aforesaid political parties stressed the need for a speedy transition to a united country where people-friendly and welfare-oriented politics are practised. They have also agreed to extend their support and cooperation to Premier Wickremesinghe and hope to have a discussion with him in a couple of weeks.
