SLPP MP Sanath Nishantha, Mayor of the Moratuwa Municipal Council, Saman Lal Fernando and another suspect who were arrested in connection with the attack on anti-government protesters on 9 May were granted bail yesterday (15).
The order was issued by the Colombo Fort Magistrate, Thilina Gamage on two surety bails of Rs 10 million each. The suspects including Nishantha and Fernando were further remanded till yesterday (15) when the case was last taken up on 8 June.
Meanwhile Dan Priyasad was further remanded until 22 June.
Previously, IGP C.D. Wickramaratne informed Court that he would appoint SDIG Kamal Silva, who is in charge of the Crimes Division, to oversee investigations into the incident.
This was when Wickramaratne appeared in Court as he was summoned to explain why the order of the Attorney General to transfer SDIG of the Western Province, Deshabandu Tennakoon, has not been implemented.
Thereby Magistrate Gamage yesterday (15), directed the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence to give reasons for the failure to implement the recommendations made by the Attorney General including that of transferring Tennakoon.
