Transport Ministry to add 25 luxury buses


The Ministry of Transport will add approximately 25 luxury buses to the Park and Ride system, which will be reactivated today (15).

Accordingly, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., luxury buses will run every 10 minutes from Kadawatha, Katubedda, and Makumbura Multimodal Centre to Colombo Fort.

National Transport Commission Director General, Commander (Rtd) Nilan Miranda said, they have not yet decided whether Park and Ride will be available seven days a week or only on weekdays. He said, if the pilot project is a success, they will decide what to implement and for how long.

Minister of Transport Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said, the Park and Ride system will be reactivated and that the parking fee will be halved.

He added that a great number of people travel by train and that they are planning to add several new trains to the service.

“On the Kelani Valley Railway Line, there will be a special weekend train from Colombo Fort to Kandy, an office train from Mount Lavinia to Jaffna, and an office train from Waga to Colombo Fort.We will also increase the number of compartments in existing trains,” he said.

The Minister also said that two new filling stations will be built at the Makumbura Multimodal Centre and at Bastian Mawatha in Colombo Fort to improve fuel availability for private sector buses and Sri Lanka Transport Board buses.
