PM has formulated food security programme

UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardena yesterday (14) said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has planned to implement a food security programme, while taking necessary action to obtain financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to resolve the economic crisis.

Abeywardena added that the need of the hour is helping people who are below the poverty line and making livelihood arrangements for them.

Premier Wickremesinghe is presently holding discussions with the IMF and other friendly nations to resolve the economic crisis. It is expected that Sri Lanka will be able to ink an agreement with the IMF before the end of June, according to Abeywardena. “Most people are speaking about the 21st Amendment to the Constitution. Nothing can be achieved by amending the Constitution without resolving the economic crisis. A stable national policy must be formulated through constitutional amendments. All MPs should come together to form policies, so that the economic crisis and the livelihood issues of people could be resolved,” he added.
