Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has directed that organic fertiliser be distributed to farmers after conducting required tests on samples and ensuring that they are standardised.
He said farmers were unimpressed with organic fertiliser provided by the Government in the previous season. He also said it has previously been confirmed that the quality of imported fertiliser samples do not conform to
Sri Lankan standards.
Thus, during a recent meeting with Ministry officials, Amaraweera directed that samples of organic fertiliser be tested prior to distribution.
Meanwhile, National Organiser of the All Ceylon Agrarian Federation (ACAF) Namal Karunaratne said the Government should not release the 65,000 tons of fertiliser imported from India before conducting necessary tests.
