Special security plan for Anuradhapura, Mihintale


The Police have taken special measures to provide security for pilgrims travelling to Anuradhapura to celebrated Poson Poya Day, the Police Media Division said in a statement yesterday (13).

The Government has declared a Poson week from June 11 to 16 to mark the Poson Full Moon Poya on 14 June.

According to the statement, around 2,500 Police officers have been deployed in many sacred places including Atamasthana, Mihintale and Tantirimale. The Police have also called on the military to provide security outside the city and near roadblocks.

Special security plan has been put in place at railway stations as well as suburban bus stands. In addition, lifeguards along with the Navy and Civil Defence Force have been deployed near reservoirs located in Anuradhapura. Traffic is divided into several sub zones under the command of an ASP and 18 car parks have been set up in Anuradhapura while seven car parks have been set up in the Mihintale Sacred Area.

The security plan will be operational 24 hours a day and all necessary steps have been taken to ensure the public’s safety, the Police Media Division said.
