SL face Maldives in battle for pride

Maldives and Sri Lanka will face off in the last Group C match of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers Final Round Today at Markaziy Stadium with the former having a slight edge, winning eight of their 21 meetings, with their last meeting – in the Mahinda Rajapaksa Cup – ending in a thrilling eight-goal draw.

Ali Fasir and Naiz Hassan could start together for the first time to create a much-needed attacking spark for Maldives, while Ibrahim Waheed Hassan could also be reinstated into the starting lineup.

Sri Lanka will also be looking to freshen up their side with defender Jude Supun available for a recall into the starting 11 to shore up their defence with the addition of Mohamed Shifan in attack.

However, the islanders will face a major blow as they will not have the services of their wall custodian Sujan Perera after he received two yellow cards in his previous match.

Perera once again showed his acrobatic skills throughout the series by keeping his opponents at bay.

Perera is likely to be replaced by Kaveesh Fernando and he has a daunting task to fill the Sujan’s boots.
