Muditha Peiris appointed Litro Chair

Muditha Peiris was appointed as Chairman of Litro Gas Lanka Ltd yesterday (13), becoming the third Chairman to be appointed since April this year.

Peiris served as Managing Director of Litro Gas during the previous Government and he was removed from his post in 2019.

His predecessor, Engineer Vijitha Herath, resigned last week.

The trade unions at the company said the appointment of Muditha as Chairman was acceptable.  On 21 April, Engineer Herath, former Chairman of Sri Lanka Insurance and Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) was appointed as the Litro Chairman. He was appointed after former Litro Chairman Theshara Jayasinghe resigned on 14 April, accusing the gas supplier of institutional corruption and other irregularities.

Meanwhile, thousands of people queue daily islandwide for domestic LP Gas cylinders.

Because no gas shipment is expected in the near future, Litro Gas Lanka Ltd has suspended domestic LP gas distribution until further notice. A Litro Gas spokesman said he couldn’t predict when domestic LP gas deliveries would resume, as there had been no recent shipments. When queried when the next shipment would arrive, he responded that he would notify the public as soon as possible.
