The Chinese Government has donated 2,500 packs of dry rations, and the State of Tamil Nadu, in India has offered to provide 50,000 packs of rice and other essential food items to be distributed in the Ampara District to alleviate food shortages.
Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong, accompanied by his wife, recently distributed food aid at the auditorium of the Ampara Kachcheri. The distribution was organised by Ampara District Additional Government Agent V. Jegetheesan. The Secretary to the Governor of the Eastern Province was also present during this occasion.
The Chinese envoy and his spouse participated in the token distribution of dry rations to 100 villagers. The villagers received a total of 2,500 dry rations.
V. Jegatheesan thanked the Chinese Ambassador for the humanitarian aidwho assured that similar aid will continue.
Selected residents in 503 Grama Nildhari Divisions in 20 Divisional Secretariat Divisions of the district are slated to receive assistance; 5,070 packs for Sammanthurai DS Division, 1,193 packs for Irakkamam DS Division, 3,183 packs for Addalaichenai DS Division, 1,988 packs for Navithaveli DS Division, 2,485 packs for Nintavur DS Division, 2,684 packs for Pottuvil DS Division, 2,187 packs for Thirukkovil DS Division,2,180 packs for Ampara, 1,690 packs for MahaOya, 1,292 packs Dehiattakandiya, 5467 packs for Uhana, 3,280 for Damana, 1,190 packs for Lahugala and 1,292 packs for Pathiyathalawa.
