Minister of Tourism Harin Fernando said that the Cabinet has approved the recommendations for the soft liquor licence yesterday (13) where Rs 25,000 was recommended as an annual licence fee for small-scale investors as introductory programme.
The soft liquor licences will only be issued to Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) registered tourist institutions which provide food, drink and accommodations such a boutique hotels. This includes classified tourist hotels among 18 other entities, it was proposed.
The other recommendations are to minimise the delay in obtaining renewing licences within a maximum period of four weeks after submitting the application to the Excise Department and issuing the permit relaxing general conditions of licensing to facilitate the promotion of the tourism industry.
The cabinet paper also recommended decentralising the licensing process so that this permission can be granted by the Assistant Excise Offices established at the Provincial level of the Excise Department or Excise officers established at the provincial level of the Excise Department or the Excise Authorities established at the district level.
