The clearing of land for cultivation began on 11 June under the supervision of Galle District Secretary, Shantha Weerasinghe.

The land will be used to cultivate potato, vegetable and fruit crops.

This is one of the first projects launched under the ‘Ekwa Wawamu Rata Dinawamu’ programme. It is carried out by the Akmeemana Divisional Secretariat, Walahanduwa Agrarian Services Centre and the Southern Provincial Ministry of Agriculture on the District Secretary’s instructions.

The Army Gemunuhewa Brigade, Koggala Brandex Apparel Company, Galle Prison and the Galle District Disaster Management Unit sponsored the project.
