Hirusha Hashen Mendis Abeysekara of St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya was adjudged best performer for his 7.76m effort in the long jump at the Junior National Athletics Championship concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium on Friday.
Hirusha who has already qualified for the forthcoming World Athletics Junior Championship, was also adjudged best athlete in the under-20 category.
15 Records were shattered during the five day meet which started on 9 May but had to be postponed due to the island wide curfew.
9 athletes have so far achieved qualification standard for the World Junior Championship, but their participation is doubtful due to lack of funding.
