Smallholders making losses

Tea smallholders in the Southern Province say that though a kilo of dry tea leaves has fetched a price of Rs 250, they are unable to make profits due to the fertiliser shortage, increasing labour cost and rising cost of living.

They stated that this is also the highest price that had been quoted for a kilo of dry tea leaves while lamenting that they had not been able to make money from it as anticipated.

This was revealed by Chairperson of the Athukorala Small Tea Holders Group Anura Athukorala
