Police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters marching towards the Police Headquarters in Colombo yesterday (9) demanding the immediate arrest of all the persons involved in the attacks on peaceful protesters at ‘GotaGoGama’ and ‘MynaGoGama’ on 9 May.

Tear gas was fired at the protesters near the entrance to the Police Headquarters.

The road from Pettah towards the Galle Face Green had been blocked for traffic due to the protest march.

The march started from the Fort Railway Station and headed towards the Police Headquarters in Pettah. Police used tear gas and water cannons on the protesters to stop them from toppling barricades and roadblocks along York Street.

Meanwhile, a blood donation campaign was held to mark one month since the attacks. “They wanted to spill our blood. So we will donate our blood to the nation,” the protesters said.
