Mask mandate lifted


It is not mandatory to wear facemasks indoors or outdoors from today (10), Director General Health Services, Dr. Asela Gunawardena said.

Accordingly, any previous press releases, directions, circulars, guidelines or letters issued on Covid-19 preventive measures are no longer valid, Dr. Gunawardena said.

However, it would be preferable for persons with respiratory symptoms to wear a face mask. This direction does not prevent persons wearing face masks according to their wish.

Dr. Gunawardena, as the proper authority for the whole of Sri Lanka issuing the following directions as a press release by virtue of the regulation made under the Quarantine and Prevention of Disease Ordinance No.3 of 1897 said that performing of Covid -19 PCR test or Rapid Antigen (RAT) should not be done as a screening test.
