Southern Province farmers said due to the increased demand for vegetable seed a shortage has arisen.
To face an impending famine, people have begun cultivating in their home gardens and with increased cultivation there was a shortage of seeds.
According to these farmers, the scarcity of vegetable seeds has been experienced in Govijana Seva Centres, State farms coming under the purview of the Department of Agriculture and at private agro sales outlets.
Farmers who visit these places to purchase vegetable seeds are forced to return home empty handed and said prices of vegetable seeds had sky rocketed.
