Patali to go independent


Announcing tha the was leaving the Samagi Jana Balawegaya-led alliance, MP Patali Champika Ranawaka said yesterday (8), that he would function as an independent in Parliament.

Ranawaka said, he informed the decision to Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in writing three days ago. He refuted the report that the decision was taken to accept a Cabinet Minister post.

Making a statement in the House, he said,“Everyone in the Government and the Opposition must act with responsibility at this juncture. I believe I can provide more assistance for the favourable decisions taken for the sake of the country, if I function as an independent MP. I have no intention to take a Cabinet Minister post from this Government.”

Speaking further, Ranawaka said he expects a change in government and is in favour of an all-party Interim Government.
