Johnston seeks order preventing his arrest


Parliamentarian Johnston Fernando filed a Writ Application before the Court of Appeal yesterday (8), seeking an order preventing him from being arrested in relation to the 9 May incidents, where anti-Government protesters were attacked by SLPP supporters.

On the directives of the Attorney General, Fernando was previously named as a suspect in the case, following which Additional Solicitor General Ayesha Jinasena informed Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage on 1 June that Fernando has been named as a suspect.

Fernando previously recorded a five-hour statement at the Criminal Investigation Department in connection with the incident.While Fernando was giving the statement, a protest was staged outside the CID demanding his arrest over the said incident.
