The Court of Appeal today (9) ordered former Minister Johnston Fernando to surrender before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court before 08:00 pm tonight.
Accordingly, the warrant issued by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court for the arrest of Fernando will not be enforced by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) till 08:00 pm, as per an order issued by the Appeal Court.
The order for Fernando to surrender came following the consideration of a writ application filed by the former minister seeking a court order preventing his arrest.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday (08) issued a warrant for the arrest of Fernando in connection with the violent attacks that took place near Galle Face and Temple Trees on 09 May.
