Chinese Envoy calls western countries to assist Sri Lanka


Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka urged western countries yesterday (8)  to ‘walk the talk’ on human rights and assist crisis-hit  Sri Lanka

Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong after meeting the UN Resident Coordinator to Sri Lanka Hanaa Singer tweeted, “We urge the western countries to walk the talk to help Sri Lanka’s human rights and that food and medicines are basic Human Rights.”

Ambassadors Singer and Qi met yesterday where the Chinese Ambassador briefed Singer on China’s all-round assistance to Sri Lanka and had discussed its joint efforts to support Sri Lanka at a time of crisis. 

Singer also tweeted that she had a good discussions with the Chinese Ambassador on how the international community can support pathways for recovery from Sri Lanka’s economic crisis.  She said that the UN is working with all Member States to address Sri Lanka’s most urgent needs.
