The Department of Immigration and Emigration said it has issued nearly 390,000 online and on-arrival visas between 1 January and 31 May.
The Department’s Deputy Controller Piyumi Bandara told Ceylon Today that presently the online passport application submission is under construction.
She said there is a high demand for passports, causing severe congestion at the Passport Office, and they could only issue 2,500 passports, though there is no shortage of passport books, and they are executing a plan to issue online applications for passports.
Further, she added that 288,645 passports were issued between 1 January and 31 May.
