Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says he would do his utmost to secure monetary assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) by September.
The Premier has discussed the matter with the Managing Director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva yesterday.
He also revealed that the IMF Chief has been informed of the steps taken thus far by the Sri Lankan government to resolve the ongoing economic crisis.
The Prime Minister had also explained that the negotiations on bridging finance are reliant on Sri Lanka and the IMF concluding a staff-level agreement, therefore, requested the IMF staff-level delegation to visit Sri Lanka as soon as possible so that the staff-level agreement can be finalised.
Wickremesinghe is confident that IMF would respond positively to the matter since the IMF Chief has expressed her willingness to help Sri Lanka in these difficult times.
