Australia sealed the three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka with a three-wicket win this evening, with opening batsmen Aaron Finch and David Warner securing a partnership of 45 runs.
Chasing a score of 124, and having chased down a similar score in the first game, Australia was expected to do so yet again and they did get the start they needed, scoring a total of 126/7.
Matthew Wade was titled Man of the Match, while Finch, although continuing his form from the previous game, ended up giving away his wicket after having tried to be overaggressive.
David Warner and Mitchell Marsh too started off in fine fashion but Marsh fell and then Steven Smith was dismissed soon after, following which the visitors started to lose the plot a bit. Maxwell and Wade kept a calm head and got the Aussies close to victory before Maxwell got out, leaving the door open for the opposition.
Later, however, a composed innings from Matthew Wade led the team to victory, leading the series 2-0.
The Lions finally gave their fans something to cheer, and nearly pulled off a miraculous escape, with Wanindu Hasaranga scoring match figures of 4 for 33 which almost turned the game, helping reduce the visitors to 7 for 99, but Sri Lanka rue not going with an extra spinner as Wade was able to wait out Hasaranga and Theekshana and see the game out.
The third and final match of the T20 series is scheduled to be played on 11 June, at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.
