SJB MP Wedaarachchi’s son & wife remanded

The Walasamulla Magistrate’s Court today (08) remanded Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Dilip Wedaarachchi’s son & daughter-in-law, till tomorrow (08), over their recent altercation with the Police on the Southern Expressway.

The couple was arrested yesterday (06), when they surrendered to the Weeraketiya Police.

The former Tangalle Mayor, Ravindu Wedaarachchi and his wife Nethmi Silva were seen in an altercation with the Police on 01 June at the Bedigama Interchange on the Southern Expressway, after they were refused entry.

Police had prevented the couple from entering the Expressway on the grounds that they were attempting to transport a refrigerator that had been carelessly loaded onto their double cab.

Subsequently, the said individuals had verbally abused the Officer, as evidenced by the video footage recently circulated across several media platforms.

The Police Officer later filed a complaint with the Weeraketiya Police, while Ravindu Wedaarachchi took to his official Facebook claiming that the Officer had initiated the incident, having grabbed him by the shirt.

Sri Lanka Police noted, however, that investigations revealed that the couple had, in fact, obstructed the duties of the Officer, and are currently in hiding after fleeing their residence.

Meanwhile, MP Wedaarachchi defended his son and daughter-in-law on Sunday (05), while also accusing a police officer of assaulting his son.
