Prioritise economic recovery

Certain SLPP MPs have requested Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to prioritise overcoming the economic crisis, instead of focussing on Constitutional Amendments.

The proposal was put forward during a discussion held with Wickremesinghe at the Prime Minister’s Office on 5 June.

Parliamentarian Wimalaweera Dissanayake, commenting on the discussion, said at least 12 SLPP MPs who attended the discussion emphasised that if the focus is on Constitutional Amendments as opposed to focusing on overcoming the economic crisis, the ruling party would split.

Justice Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, former Ministers Basil Rajapaksa, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, and Pavithra Wanniarachchi were also present at the meeting.
