The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has assured that power cuts would not be imposed by August if there is sufficient rainfall.
CEB Chairman M.M.C. Ferdinando said, the weather is highly beneficial and a vital factor to potentially generate hydropower to its full capacity. He did, however, urge the Government to expedite the process of adding renewable energy to the national grid as soon as possible.
“Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekara, informed us that power cuts would be reduced following the GCE O/L Examinations in May and June. However, due to the delay in diesel supplies, we had to reintroduce power cuts. However, we believe this will be over soon,” he said.
Further, he noted that if the Government takes prompt action to implement renewable energy projects it would help overcome the issue of power interruptions.
