Despite the fact that the flamingo species can now be seen in large numbers in lagoon habitats along the northern coast, there is currently a significant decrease in tourists visiting the site to see the birds.
Hundreds of bird species are commonly found and these African birds fly thousands of miles in search of warmer countries as winter approaches.
Mannar residents claim that despite the fact that there are large flocks of this species in several lagoons in Mannar, there were no tourists and were now denied of a source of income.
Residents of Mannar claim that due to the country’s current economic downturn and fuel shortage, all tourist destinations in Mannar were closed.
