Detention Order on Russian aircraft lifted

The Colombo Commercial High Court, yesterday (6), suspended the Enjoining Order issued against the Russian Aeroflot aircraft, which had been detained at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

On 2 June, the Commercial High Court of the Western Province issued an Enjoining Order on the Aeroflot aircraft, restraining it from taking off from the BIA. The flight which was scheduled to depart from BIA, on 2 June to Moscow with 191 passengers and 13 crew members, was cancelled due to the Enjoining Order.

The Court hearing to lift the restriction on the aircraft was scheduled for 8 June. However, the AG had filed a motion seeking to make special submissions with regard to case, which was subsequently taken up for hearing yesterday (6). President’s Counsel Avindra Rodrigo appeared on behalf of the plaintiff yesterday (6).

As per the order issued by the Court, the Aeroflot Aircraft returned to Moscow last evening (6).
