Cabinet Ministers to forego salaries

Cabinet Ministers have agreed to forego their salaries for a period of one year, as proposed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The proposal was made in light of the ongoing crisis, to which the Cabinet agreed unanimously, Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawardena said.

Gunawardena further added that several measures, such as the appointment of a smaller Cabinet nad the foregoing of salaries, are being taken to reduce State expenditure which amounts to nearly Rs.9.6 billion, while only a total of Rs. 4 billion is incurred as Government revenue.
