A total of 33 persons who were suspected to be involved in attacking houses of MP Wimalaweera Dissanayake and the Ampara Urban Council on 9 May were arrested, OIC of the Special Investigation Unit on the incidents, P. Prakalathan said.
He said two suspects who surrendered were among them.
He added that following the violence on 9 May, houses of Dissanayake, his son, and the Ampara Mayor came under arson attacks, causing significant damage.
The Special Investigation Unit, headed by Prakalathan was appointed on the instructions of the Ampara SSP.
The suspects were enlarged on bail. The State Valuation Department is determining the damage. Further investigations are underway, Prakalathan added.
