21st Amendment to be discussed next week

Discussions pertaining to the draft 21st Amendment to the Constitution will commence at next week’s Cabinet meeting, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardana said.

Speaking in Parliament this morning (07), Gunawardena noted, however, that reaching a unanimous decision regarding the Amendment with the consent of all members was a rather difficult task.

He added that Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa had held discussions with leaders of political parties, and submitted the draft amendment at the end of yesterday’s Cabinet meeting, inclusive of the proposals tabled by the political parties.

Gunawardena claimed that the draft is still in the discussion stage, and that Government interest towards the 21st Amendment continues to remain in place.
