107th Colombo Championship gets underway


The traditional and famous Colombo Championships, which is the oldest tennis tournament of the country, got underway for the 107th time on 4 June at the SLTA (playing section) courts at Green Path. The tournament has attracted a record number of participants, including the cream of tennis.

‘Vision Care’ are the principal sponsor of the tournament, which is also supported by First Capital PLC and Nestle.

Events range from juniors (Boys/Girls – under-12 to 18), Men’s, Women’s and Veterans (for over-35, 45, 55 and 65), giving every segment of the tennis playing community an opportunity to participate.

Making his sponsorship commitment, Janaka Fernando, Managing Director of Vision Care said: “We are very happy to be involved with this prestigious tournament for the 7th year running. We believe sports are vital for the health of the nation and are strongly committed to supporting the Colombo Championships. The objective of the tournament is in line with our corporate objectives, and as such, we want to be part of this wonderful event.”
