Evans’ hat-trick sets up Serendib’s thumping 4-0 win
Asante Evans netted a hat trick to set up Serendib SCs comfortable 4-0 win over St. Marys SC in the sixth match of the ongoing Champions League 2022 kicked off at Maligapitiya Ground, Kurunegala yesterday.
Serendib SC dominated proceedings and kept piling on the pressure right from the beginning, which resulted in an own goal from the boot of St. Marys SC skipper Anthonypillai Kilintas in the 32nd minute.
Serendib SC continued their domination and doubled their lead just before the first half whistle through Asante Evans, to end the first half 2-0.
Into the second half, St. Marys SC were never seen to threaten the Serendib penalty area, as they opted to play a defensive game to prevent any further damage.
However, Asante Evans proved too clever for the St. Marys SC defence, as he once again found the net in the 64th minute to virtually seal the match.
After a poor performance in the first half St. Marys SC never recovered. They were let down on a number of occasions by their defense line-up, which enabled their opponents to move the ball around freely and score when the opportunity presented itself.
Adding salt to their wound, Asante Evans once again rose to the occasion and added their fourth goal in the 90+2 minute to register a comfortable win.
Meanwhile, the seventh match between Saunders SC and Solid SC ended in a 1-all draw at Sugathadasa Stadium. C. Abeysekara drew first blood for Saunders in the 16th minute, and Samith Maduranga equalised in the 55th minute for Solid SC.
