Aquaculture research centres for North and East – Devananda

Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda said that steps have been taken to establish aquaculture research centres, in suitable areas of the Northern and Eastern provinces, in order to promote aquaculture farming in those areas as soon as possible.

This comes after officials from the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) asked Fisheries Minister Devananda to take the necessary steps to establish aquaculture research centres in both provinces.

He added that in addition to this, NARA scientists had brought to his attention issues they were encountering while conducting research to expand the fisheries industry-related development projects using the country’s available resources.

Minister Devananda also directed the relevant officials in the Fisheries Ministry to submit to him fisheries sector development project proposals that create a good foundation for the economy while providing nutritious sea food to the people of this country.
