A brace from Kelum Priyankara set up New Star SC’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in the opening game of the Champions League at the Maligapitiya Ground on Friday.
New Star dominated possession in the first half, but failed to break the deadlock. However, Priyankara put New Star ahead minutes into the second half to shell shock the opposition camp.
Though Crystal Palace tried their best to equalise, all their efforts were fended off by the New Star custodian.
With 10 minutes left to play Kelum Priyankara once again found the back of the net to double New Star’s lead in the 88th minute and virtually seal the match.
