Vegetable prices could go up further

Manager of Dambulla Dedicated Economic Centre Christy Wijeratne yesterday (2) expressed concern that if sufficient vegetables are not brought daily, the price of vegetables at the Centre and other vegetable markets in the area would rise further in the coming days.

He said this situation arose in the centre and other vegetable markets in the region because wholesale traders and central markets are not receiving an adequate amount of vegetables on a daily basis due to the country’s fuel crisis.

The prevailing inclement weather condition has also had a negative impact on vegetable supply and prices, Wijeratne added.
