Telephone bills to increase from midnight today

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) announced that telephone call charges will be increased from midnight today (03).

Deputy Director Indrajith Handapangoda quoted the reason for the increase as the increase in telecommunications tax from the existing 11.25% to 15% with effect from midnight today.

He noted that the increase in the Value Added Tax (VAT) on internet service charges would also be revised.

Accordingly, the tax will increase from 10.2% to 14.29%.

Leading telephone service providers have increased their call charges as well as internet service charges in line with the relevant tax amendments and have taken steps to inform consumers of the matter.
