Sethika Hansira Samaraweera of Royal International School, Kurunegala won the under-8 Championship convincingly scoring 7 points out 7 games to clinch the title, trophy and Gold Medal.
Six players tied for second place with 6 points out of 7 games, but it was Kemindu Sehas Palliyaguruge (Rahula College, Matara) who was awarded second place and the Silver Medal with the better tie breaker.
R.B. Hasadi Sethumsa (Sujatha Vidyalaya) had the next best tie-breaker and was awarded the Bronze Medal.
Saviru Thinal Meemanage (Nalanda College) and Rasindu Manketh Kasthuriarachchi (Rahula College Matara) came in 4th and 5th due to the poor tie breaking points.
The under-8 open event was held from 26 to 28 May at Sastrananda Vidyalaya, Dehiwala according to Swiss System in 9 rounds. The top three will get an opportunity to play in International Youth Chess events.
