Vinuda Shenal Gunathilake of Royal College Colombo won the Sri Lanka National Youth Under-14 Chess Championships 2022 title and the Gold Medal winning 6 out of 7 games with a better tie breaker after tying with four other players – Disara Tennakoon, Malisha Weeratunge, Disal Weerasekara and D.R.B.G. Galkotuwa.
Disara Tennakoon of Dharmaraja College Kandy won second place and the Silver medal, while third place went to Maleesha Savindu Weerasekara of D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo.

(Sri Chandananda Buddhist School) and D.R.B.G. Galkotuwa (Dharmaraja College) also scored 6 points out of 7 games but had to be content with 4th and the 5th places.
The National Youth Chess Championships 2022 is one of the most prestigious events conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka. The event comprises 12 categories in 6 age groups – Under-8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 Open and Women. The event commenced on 20 April and will conclude on 31 May.
The preliminary events were held in 19 Districts in March, and the players who qualified were eligible to participate. Five categories have been completed so far, and the balance seven categories will take place shortly.
