As a cost-cutting measure the head office and all district offices of the Labour Department will be closed on Fridays from today (3) until further notice.
Commissioner General of Labour B.K. Prabath Chandrakeerthi said the offices will remain open only for four days a week.
The decision has been taken considering the need to reduce State expenditure under the prevailing situation where resources are limited and in line with the Circulars issued by the Ministry of Public Administration.
The Circular states to limit the reporting of State employees to office for duty, to use fuel and electricity sparingly and specifies the difficulties faced by public servants with regard to transportation.
