Kahandagama arrested

Colombo Municipal Councillor Mahinda Kahandagama, who had been named as a suspect in the 9 May attacks case, was arrested yesterday (2), after he surrendered to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The Attorney General named Kahandagama and former Minister Johnston Fernando as suspects in the attacks on the protesters, who were demanding the resignations of the President and then Prime Minister at GotaGoGama and MynaGoGama, by the supporters of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.

Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said Kahandagama will probably be produced in Court today and that a group of Policemen has already been deployed to arrest former Minister Fernando.

The CID recently recorded a statement from Fernando in connection with the incident.
